Why Córdoba
Córdoba is Argentina's colonial capital, a picturesque city on the edge of a mountain range known as Sierras Chicas. As the second city of Argentina, Córdoba is chosen by millions of travelers every year who come to discover the different attractions offered by this unique place located in the heart of the country.
Because of its proximity to the mountains, Cordoba is a perfect base for excursions into the natural beauty of its hills and lakes, which are only 40 minutes away from the city center. The region has developed around tourism to offer the best leisure activities, from sailing on its lakes to climbing its mountains or simply enjoying a relaxing weekend in contact with nature. Many Argentineans from Buenos Aires come to the region to spend their vacation, and many foreign tourists have also discovered the beauty of the landscape and the general sense of comfort and tranquility that Cordoba and its Sierras have to offer.
Another attraction that makes Córdoba a unique destination, are its historical buildings, which combine native art and the European style brought by the Jesuits in the XVI Century. The Jesuits developed a unique cultural life in Córdoba, unequalled in most of the continent, sustained by a network of several “estancias”, or ranches, throughout the region.
The “Camino de las Estancias”, the route connecting these ranches together, was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the year 2000.
As part of their Mission, the Jesuits built the first university of Argentina in Córdoba city. Today, our National University is the second largest university in the country, and Córdoba is a university city, alive with students and a correspondingly thriving nightlife.
